The company operates from its offices based in Barnstaple, North Devon and has three divisions, namely Contracting, Pearce Property Services and Pearce Homes.

The principal area of operation is Cornwall, Devon and West Somerset and represents destinations within two hours travelling distance from Barnstaple.

David Parsons

Managing Director

David joined the company in 1982 as a Production Controller and was promoted to Contracts Manager in 1984. He joined the Board of Pearce Construction (Barnstaple) Ltd in 1991 and became Managing Director in 2000.

Richard Bevan

Director - Major Contracts

Richard joined the company in 1983 as a Production Controller and was promoted to Contracts Manager in 1987. He took over the Major Contracts Division in 2000.

David Lake

Director - Property Services

David joined the company in 1969 as an Apprentice Carpenter. He became a Site Manager in 1977, joined the office staff in 1983 as a Production Controller and was promoted to Contracts Manager in 1989. David took over the running of Pearce Property Services in 1996.

Paul Knox

Director - Homes

Paul joined the company in 1984 as a Buyer and moved into Estimating in 1989. He became Senior Buyer in 1991, progressed to Quantity Surveyor in 1995 and to Managing Surveyor in 1999. Paul was promoted to Housing Manager in 2000 and Housing Director in 2004.

Mike Nicholls

Director - Development

Mike joined the company in 1970 as a Site Manager and became Contracts Manager in 1977. Mike was promoted to Housing Manager in 1984, Development Manager in 2000 and Development Director in 2004.

Richard Jeffs

Director - Finance

Richard joined the company in 1989 as a Management Accounts Trainee and became Company Accountant in 1996. He took over control of the Finance Department in 2002.

Company History

The Company was formed in 1946 as R Harris and Son. In 1981 it was acquired by C H Pearce and Sons Ltd of Bristol changing its name in 1987 to the current name of Pearce Construction (Barnstaple) Ltd.

In 2003 the Company was taken back into private ownership when it was purchased from the Pearce Group by the current management team.

In 2008 the Company re-located to new purpose designed and built premises on the outskirts of Barnstaple.

 

Health and Safety

We promote a health and safety culture throughout all that we do with the emphasis on risk assessment and safe systems of work carried out by suitably trained and competent personnel.

All our Site Managers have attended the CITB five day Site Managers Safety Training Scheme and the Company carries a gold standard certificate of commitment under the construction skills certification scheme.

Our Safety Director holds a NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Safety and Health and is a non-executive Director of The Building Safety Group Ltd.

 

Quality

Quality is embedded in all our procedures and we are committed to achieving ISO9001 accreditation in 2009.

 

Resources

The Company has in excess of 100 employees. The majority of these being tradesmen and site management based on sites across our area of operation with 25 staff at our offices in Barnstaple.

In addition to this we have an approved supply chain of subcontractors and suppliers together with our own joinery works manufacturing bespoke joinery products.

 

Training

As well as the extensive safety training carried out we also recruit up to six apprentices every year. Furthermore we support management training up to NVQ level 5.

Our rolling training programme ensures that identified training needs are met by the provision of approved courses and seminars thus ensuring our personnel are fully conversant with current legislation and new initiatives.

We have representation on the National Executive Board of The National Federation of Builders and on the Advisory Committee at North Devon College.

 

The Environment

With an ever growing commitment needed from the business sector to environmental issues the Board of Pearce Construction is committed to achieving IS0 14001 accreditation in 2010.
